Examinations

JAM offers students the opportunity to broaden their musicianship and develop strong technical skills, performance ability, and confidence through the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) syllabus.

For more than 100 years, AMEB NSW has provided high-quality assessment and accreditation for music students across the state. Established under the authority of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), AMEB credentials are internationally recognised and respected by educators and professionals worldwide.

At JAM, AMEB exams are available twice a year for all instruments taught at the academy — including voice. No matter a student’s age or level of experience, there is an AMEB grade suited to their stage of learning. We encourage students and parents to speak with their tutor to determine the most appropriate grade, exam stream, and preparation timeline

“I sat AMEB exams from the age of nine, and I strongly encourage all JAM students to complete at least one exam each year. AMEB provides a structured and measurable learning pathway that builds confidence, strengthens technique, and enhances overall musicianship. Students who prepare for AMEB examinations often become key contributors to the ensembles and bands they play in.”
